How to get the best gas mileage for your vehicle.
First and Easy Step!
DON'T go over 60 MPH. I know it is that simple but if you go between 50-60 miles per hour you'll get the best MPG that your car can get! Starting on tomorrow (Sunday 5/6/2012) I'm going to fill my tank and see how many miles I'll get by only going up to 55 MPH. I took a trip couple of weeks ago to Wisconsin and I was going between 55-60 MPH and I was quite impress with my Ford Focus 2002, I think I was pushing 25 MPG, for an older car like a Focus 2002 then yes! I think this is the most important step to take in order to get the best gas mileage in your car.
Second Step:
Don't accelerate too fast meaning don't "Floor it" this causes your car to push out more gas than it would normally do if you slowly accelerate. When ever I accelerate too fast I usually see my gas gauge go down especially when I'm needing to go to a place that takes about 15 minutes away under good road conditions and I'm ten minutes from my appointment. This usually happens when I have an appointment!
Third Step:
When sitting in traffic don't go "bumper to bumper" traffic. This usually causes your car to go fast and slow down over and over. You might want to let your car go at a crawling pace to let about a good 50+ feet from the car in front of you so you can let your car crawl. When things start to pick up don't assume that it is going to be in the up and up in regards to speed. If the average speed is going from 15 MPH to 40 MPH then you'll want your car going about 30-35 MPH so this will let your car not have to stop suddenly. An easy way to see if your car is going slower than other cars is just look outside. Of course you don't want to go too slow that you'll might get a ticket. In the state of MN the speed limit is usually between 55 to 65 MPH and the minimum is 40 MPH.
Now there is other ways to go about getting the best gas mileage. You strip off everything in your car that adds weight. Now that is a little extreme but for me I'm not able to get the absolute best gas mileage for my car because I have a Lawn Care business and be needing to have my lawn care equipment in my car.
Ford has step up quite a bit in regards to the gas mileage of their vehicles. They have a lot of their vehicles having more than 30 MPG.
Even though you might not drive a Ford but this is just a few simple tricks of getting your car having the best gas mileage.
